Mountain Law: Jura

Since November 1, 2022, it is essential for all people traveling on mountain roads (including the Jura) to comply with the new regulations Mountain Jura Law .

What exactly does it consist of? What are the sanctions in the event of non-compliance with the measures in force? And how can you be sure you're in compliance?
We tell you everything.

WHAT IS THE MONTAGNE JURA LAW?

Entry into application in 2021, the Mountain law concerns all mountainous regions of France and their more or less winding routes . Obviously, the Jura is also concerned. This law requires motorists using mountainous roads to have snow tires or, at least, snow socks or chains.

The objective: avoid accidents and congestion on the roads . Indeed, in the mountains, municipalities have observed that snowy and icy roads could make it impossible for certain vehicles to travel safely. This poses a problem and causes the number of incidents to explode during this period.

So, as we enter the winter season, It is important for any motorist wishing to drive in the mountains to equip themselves without delay .

Please note: the government has given municipalities and road users 1 year to prepare. Indeed, in 2021, not having the right equipment only resulted in a call to the law. The goal was to set up an educational campaign in order to prepare for 2022. That being said, from November 1, 2022 and until March 1, if you are arrested and the police observe that you do not have the appropriate equipment to ride in the Jura, you incur a fine of €135 and possible immobilization of the vehicle .

In the Jura department, 263 municipalities are affected by this new regulation . Here it is complete list of the 263 municipalities of Jura affected by the mountain law .

HOW TO COMPLY WITH THE JURA SNOW TIRE LAW?

Several possibilities are available to you for riding in the Jura between November 1 and March 1, 2022.

First of all, you can Equip your vehicle with snow tires or all-season tires . This is especially interesting for residents of the Jura or people who often use the roads of this massif. Indeed, the biggest disadvantage of installing winter tires is having to go to a garage. You must also be able to store your unused tires in a secure place. However, if you think you may need it on a regular basis, it may be a good investment.

Another possibility: purchasing snow chains or snow socks. An alternative to the winter tire requirement in the Jura, it is generally the choice of holidaymakers who do not want to change their tires. However, this system has 2 disadvantages: it can take a long time to put in place (especially the chains) and it must be removed once back on dry asphalt.

Please note: if you choose this second solution, you will need to pay attention to the new panels installed by the municipalities concerned by the Montagne Jura law. Those are the panels B58 and B59 which announce entry into a restricted area and exit from this area. Once in this area, all vehicles must be equipped with snow tires (obligatory in the Jura), a chain or sock .

In addition, in the event of an inspection, you must be able to show the police that you have the requested equipment. This is why it is important to always keep them in the vehicle during the period between November 1 and March 1, 2022 .

JURA WINTER TIRE LAW: FOCUS ON MUSHER TECHNOLOGY

We talked about snow tires, snow socks and snow chains. But there is a final alternative: Musher over-tire .

In fact, we have developed a technology patented by the INPI which allows you to drive with complete peace of mind on all the roads of the Jura during the winter season .

Unlike standard equipment which takes around ten minutes to be installed on your tires, our over-tyres are installed in just 5 minutes . Which is a real strong point if you have to install your equipment in bad weather conditions. Very simple to assemble, you benefit from a complete packaging which facilitates installation on any chaining area .

In addition, as we have indicated, standard snow chains and socks are certainly effective on icy and snowy roads, but they are not suitable for driving on dry asphalt. This requires you to remove them as soon as you leave the mandatory zone if you notice that the road is more passable. Our over-tyre, for its part, is effective on all types of surfaces . So, you can drive with complete peace of mind for around 150 km on dry asphalt. No need to remove your device when you have to cross a tunnel or a snow-free slope!

Finally, it is also interesting to note that certain vehicles cannot be chained. Which requires installing snow tires. In this case, you may be interested in our technology which also adapts to non-chainable vehicles .
